Kakai

[2016] — This series was a celebration of some of my favorite elements in fashion; texture, color, layering and embellishment. This was the debut of the signature Papa Oppong “Kakai” mask. Kakai is a Twi word which translates to “Monster”. Taking some inspiration from traditional African masks and looking casually at Pablo Picasso’s renditions of said masks, I thoroughly enjoyed playfully obstructing the faces of these models with my own version of the traditional African mask. The clothes are otherworldly with signature Papa Oppong “Poison Bush” florals seemingly growing out of the pieces.
